Multiplication Songs

It's that time of year when we learn to multiply! I love this unit because it is so easy for my students to multiply once they have learned these songs. I start front loading these songs in class about 3 months in advance. By the time the multiplication unit arrives, they already know the songs and actually applying it to multiplying is a breeze. There are songs for the fact families: 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9.

I am singing on these videos (sorry). Yes, I know that I am not a singer. I did save you from listening to me sing the 9's song. :)  It is to the Star Spangled Banner, so I just posted the numbers.

When using these songs, have the students hold up one finger each time they sing a number. That should show them that the number that they are skip counting by times the number of fingers that they are holding up is equal to the number that they are singing. I hope that these songs are helpful.

Perimeter

We have been learning about perimeter in my class this week. We talked about how perimeter measures the outside or the "rim" of a shape. Then we used 1" tiles to build shapes and find the perimeter of each shape. This is a video of one of my students explaining how to find the perimeter of a rectangle that he built.

The Perimeter Song

The Perimeter Song is supposed the be to the tune of " Hi-Ho the Diary-O."  This is a fun and easy way to help your students remember what the perimeter is and how to find it.
